Rachaad White in Washington: The Full-PPR Role Everyone Is Overlooking

Jacory Croskey-Merritt may lead Washington in carries, but Rachaad White doesn't need to win the rushing job to become valuable in full PPR.

I think people are asking the wrong question about Rachaad White.

The question isn't:

Will he beat Jacory Croskey-Merritt for the starting running back job?

Maybe he won't.

The better fantasy question is:

How much does White need to play to matter in full PPR?

Because his receiving history gives him a completely different path to points.

JCM Was Great as a Runner

Croskey-Merritt earned the opportunity to lead this backfield.

As a rookie:

• 175 carries • 805 rushing yards • 8 rushing touchdowns

He averaged nearly five yards per carry.

That's legitimately good.

But he caught only:

9 passes for 68 yards.

That's the opening for White.

White's Career Has Been Built on Receiving

White has already caught 205 NFL passes.

His career receiving totals:

• 205 receptions • 1,450 yards • 11 touchdowns

And we've already seen what a major PPR season can look like.

In 2023:

• 990 rushing yards • 64 receptions • 549 receiving yards • 9 total touchdowns

I don't need that entire role again.

Not remotely.

If White becomes Washington's best receiving back and gets enough carries to keep defenses honest, there is a weekly PPR role available.

That's Why I'm Interested

Washington has a crowded backfield.

That matters.

JCM is there.

White is there.

Kaytron Allen and Jerome Ford are also in the room.

I'm not projecting White for 250 touches.

What I'm betting on is that his best skill fills something Washington didn't get much of from Croskey-Merritt last year.

JCM can absolutely improve as a receiver.

The Commanders have been working with him on exactly that.

But White has already proven he can do it at NFL volume.

Minor Injury Note

White has also been dealing with a minor hamstring tweak during camp.

Current reporting has described it as minor.

I'm monitoring it, but I'm not changing my entire season outlook unless it lingers into Week 1.

My Fantasy Read

In standard scoring, this role wouldn't excite me nearly as much.

In full PPR, it does.

Give White:

8-10 carries + 3-4 catches

and suddenly we're talking about a player who can survive as a flex without needing a touchdown.

Then if JCM misses time?

The ceiling changes dramatically.

That's exactly the type of running back I like targeting later.

I'm not betting against Croskey-Merritt.

I'm betting that Washington can have more than one useful running back — and White's receiving ability gives him the clearest path to being the second one.
