Cooper Rush Is Starting — Bijan Robinson Could Be the Biggest Fantasy Winner

Atlanta's Week 1 quarterback plan changed quickly.

Tua Tagovailoa is out with an oblique injury.

Michael Penix Jr. remains unavailable.

That leaves Cooper Rush as the Falcons' starter against Pittsburgh.

Fantasy managers will immediately ask what this means for Drake London and Kyle Pitts.

The player who could benefit most may be Bijan Robinson.

Kevin Stefanski has a reason to simplify the offense

A quarterback change days before the opener creates obvious challenges.

Rush is an experienced NFL backup, but he did not spend the offseason preparing as Atlanta's starter.

Kevin Stefanski can make the transition easier by building the game plan around the most dependable player on the roster.

That player is Robinson.

The Falcons can use him as a runner, receiver and outlet against pressure.

Those touches do not require Rush to consistently attack tight throwing windows downfield.

Short targets can be extremely valuable

Fantasy managers sometimes hear "conservative offense" and assume every skill player loses value.

Running backs can be the exception.

If Atlanta uses more checkdowns, screens and quick throws, Robinson can accumulate receptions even if the passing offense becomes less explosive.

That is especially useful in full-PPR formats.

A five-yard catch is worth far more to a fantasy running back than a five-yard carry.

Rush starting could therefore lower Atlanta's overall offensive ceiling while still increasing Robinson's touch concentration.

London and Pitts become harder to project

Drake London remains a strong fantasy starter because target volume should still be there.

The concern is target quality.

A quarterback change can reduce explosive opportunities and touchdown probability even if raw targets remain strong.

Kyle Pitts faces a similar issue.

Both players may still command meaningful volume, but expectations should be slightly more conservative until we see what the Rush-led offense looks like.

Pittsburgh can force the issue

The Steelers' defense gives Atlanta another reason to protect its quarterback.

If Pittsburgh generates pressure, Robinson becomes the obvious safety valve.

That could produce a game in which his receiving usage matters as much as his rushing workload.

Fantasy managers should watch where Robinson lines up and how often Atlanta gets him involved on early downs through the air.

Cooper Rush starting is a downgrade to Atlanta's passing-game efficiency.

It is not automatically a downgrade to Bijan Robinson.

The Falcons have every reason to make their best player the center of the offense while breaking in a backup quarterback.

Robinson remains an elite Week 1 play and could see an even more concentrated workload because of the quarterback change.
