Chris Olave Could Command a Massive Week 1 Target Share

Chris Olave enters Week 1 with one of the cleanest volume arguments among fantasy wide receivers.

New Orleans will open the season without first-round rookie Jordyn Tyson, who is on injured reserve. Alvin Kamara is also working through an MCL issue.

Those absences and limitations do not guarantee Olave a huge fantasy game.

They do make it increasingly difficult for the Saints to build their passing offense without heavily involving him.

Volume is the reason to be excited

Fantasy managers sometimes spend too much time trying to predict touchdowns.

Targets are much easier to build an argument around.

Olave is the established top receiver in New Orleans, and the Saints enter the season without the rookie wideout expected to become another major part of the offense.

That naturally concentrates the target tree.

New Orleans still has other receivers and tight ends available, but there is a difference between having capable NFL players and having another receiver who commands targets at Olave's level.

Until someone proves otherwise, the passing game should run through him.

Olave can be the first read on standard dropbacks, move around the formation and still be used on high-percentage concepts when the Saints need easy completions.

That versatility is exactly what can produce double-digit target games.

Game environment could help

Detroit enters Week 1 as the favorite, creating a realistic possibility that New Orleans will be forced to throw throughout the second half.

Fantasy managers should never rely entirely on projected game script, but pass volume tends to increase when teams are chasing points.

If Detroit's offense forces New Orleans into an aggressive approach, Olave is the player most likely to benefit.

A high-volume passing script combined with a condensed receiving group is exactly the setup fantasy managers want.

The floor may be more valuable than the ceiling

Olave certainly has big-play ability, but his Week 1 appeal does not require a 50-yard touchdown.

If he commands a massive portion of Shough's targets, he can produce a strong PPR performance simply through receptions and intermediate yardage.

That gives him a particularly attractive profile in full-PPR formats.

Even if New Orleans struggles offensively, concentrated volume can protect his fantasy floor.

Start him confidently

Olave should be in fantasy lineups.

The more interesting question is whether he belongs closer to the high-end WR1 conversation than the low-end WR1/WR2 range.

Given the Saints' current personnel, there is a strong argument for aggressive expectations.

Week 1 will also give us an early look at whether this target concentration is temporary while Tyson is out or the beginning of a season-long offensive identity.

Chris Olave has one of the best volume setups of Week 1. Jordyn Tyson's absence removes an important target competitor, Kamara's knee creates additional offensive uncertainty, and New Orleans may need to throw heavily against Detroit. Fantasy managers should treat Olave as a locked-in starter with legitimate WR1 overall-week upside if the Saints' targets become as concentrated as the depth chart suggests.
