Brock Bowers Is Expected to Miss Week 1 — Michael Mayer Has a Real Streaming Window

The Raiders entered Week 1 expecting Brock Bowers to be the centerpiece of their passing game.

Now Las Vegas may have to open the season without him.

Bowers underwent a meniscus trim after a knee issue from training camp was diagnosed, and reports indicate he is expected to miss one to two games. He did not practice Wednesday.

That immediately puts Michael Mayer on the fantasy radar.

Mayer has already shown he can produce when Bowers is unavailable

This is not a projection based entirely on draft pedigree.

When Bowers missed time in 2025, Mayer's production increased. More than half of Mayer's receptions and receiving yards last season came in games Bowers did not play.

That is meaningful evidence.

Bowers commands targets because he is one of the most difficult tight ends in football to cover. When those targets disappear, Las Vegas still needs someone to work the middle of the field.

Mayer is the most natural replacement.

The Raiders list him directly behind Bowers on the depth chart, with Ian Thomas behind Mayer.

Klint Kubiak's offense makes the opportunity interesting

Klint Kubiak takes over Las Vegas with a roster built around Ashton Jeanty and Bowers as the two most obvious offensive centerpieces.

Without Bowers, the passing game becomes far less certain.

Jalen Nailor, Tre Tucker, Jack Bech and the rest of the wide receiver room all have opportunities, but none has established himself as the kind of target-dominating option who automatically absorbs Bowers' work.

That is good news for Mayer.

The Raiders can keep many of their tight-end concepts in the offense instead of rebuilding the entire passing plan around the receivers.

Mayer is not Bowers.

He does not need to be.

He simply needs enough routes and targets to become fantasy relevant at a position where opportunity is often difficult to find.

The matchup gives Mayer a chance to matter immediately

Las Vegas opens against Miami.

If Mayer runs a healthy number of routes, he becomes a legitimate streaming option in deeper leagues and for managers scrambling after the Bowers news.

Tight end fantasy scoring is volatile.

A player seeing five to seven targets near the middle of the field can quickly become a usable starter, especially if one of those opportunities comes in the red zone.

Mayer has done that before when Bowers was unavailable.

Do not turn a short-term opportunity into a season-long projection

The important limitation is obvious.

Bowers is expected back.

Once he returns, Mayer's target ceiling falls sharply.

That means fantasy managers should treat Mayer as a short-term solution rather than assuming he has suddenly become a weekly top-10 tight end.

If you roster Bowers, Mayer is an especially logical bridge.

If you are streaming the position, he belongs in the Week 1 conversation.

If Bowers misses a second game, Mayer could remain useful for Week 2 as well.

FF Draft Boards Take

Michael Mayer is one of the cleanest injury-created tight end streamers entering Week 1.

The Raiders already know how to use him when Bowers is unavailable, and the wide receiver room does not have an obvious replacement for Bowers' vacated targets.

Do not expect Mayer to become Bowers.

Expect him to have a real opportunity while Bowers is out.
