Nico Collins Is Officially Out — Dalton Schultz Is a TE1 Again

Nico Collins will miss a second straight game with a hamstring injury. Dalton Schultz drew 14 targets without him last week and remains Houston's cleanest volume bet against Indianapolis.

There is no longer anything to monitor with Nico Collins for Week 3.

Houston has officially ruled him out against Indianapolis after he missed the entire practice week with a hamstring injury.

That makes two straight missed games for the Texans' top receiver and leaves the same question fantasy managers had last Sunday: where do C.J. Stroud's targets go without him?

Week 2 gave us a pretty strong answer.

Dalton Schultz absorbed the volume

Schultz caught 12 of 14 targets for 140 yards against Cincinnati.

Expecting another 14 targets would be aggressive. The useful part is that Houston did not simply promote one receiver into Collins' role.

Jaylin Noel, Xavier Hutchinson and Kayshon Boutte all remained involved, but none became the clear passing-game centerpiece. Schultz did.

His involvement wasn't created entirely by the injury. He had already drawn eight targets in Week 1 with Collins active.

Indianapolis doesn't need to be Cincinnati

Last week's matchup helped. That should lower the expectation from a 140-yard afternoon, not push Schultz to fantasy benches.

Tight end is a position where route participation and targets matter more than chasing a perfect matchup. Schultz has both, and Houston is once again missing the receiver who normally commands the largest share.

The Texans receivers are harder to trust

Boutte, Noel and Hutchinson all have paths to snaps, but fantasy managers still do not have evidence that one will consistently dominate targets while Collins is out.

That makes all three more speculative than Schultz.

Fantasy takeaway: Collins being officially out removes the last uncertainty. Schultz has already shown he can become Houston's volume target when the WR1 is missing, keeping him firmly in the Week 3 TE1 range.
