Ladd McConkey Missed Practice — Quentin Johnston Could Get a Huge Week 2 Opportunity
Ladd McConkey opened Week 2 preparation with a DNP because of a rib injury. If he is limited or out against Las Vegas, Quentin Johnston has a path to a much larger target share.
The Chargers opened Week 2 preparation with an important fantasy injury to monitor.
Ladd McConkey did not practice Wednesday because of a rib injury ahead of Sunday's game against Las Vegas.
That does not automatically mean McConkey will miss the game. But it creates a situation fantasy managers should prepare for before the final injury report arrives.
Quentin Johnston has the clearest path to more targets
If McConkey is limited or unavailable, Quentin Johnston becomes the most obvious Chargers receiver to benefit.
The appeal is not simply that another receiver is injured. McConkey is one of Justin Herbert's primary options, so removing or reducing his role would leave meaningful targets and routes available.
Johnston already offers downfield and scoring upside. Additional intermediate targets could raise both his floor and ceiling.
The Chargers are already dealing with receiver depth issues
Los Angeles does not have unlimited depth available behind its starters.
That makes it more likely that a McConkey absence would concentrate the passing game around the receivers Herbert already trusts rather than creating an even rotation across several backups.
For fantasy purposes, concentrated opportunity is exactly what we want.
What fantasy managers should watch
Thursday and Friday practice participation matter.
A return to full practice would dramatically reduce the concern. Another DNP or a limited session would make Johnston increasingly interesting as a Week 2 FLEX option.
Also watch whether McConkey receives a game designation Friday.
FF Draft Boards Take
Do not assume McConkey is out, but prepare for the possibility now.
Quentin Johnston is the Charger whose fantasy outlook changes the most if McConkey cannot handle his normal workload. If Friday's report is pessimistic, Johnston should move up Week 2 rankings before Sunday.
