Brock Bowers Still Isn't Practicing — Michael Mayer May Get Another Week as the Raiders' TE1

Brock Bowers' Week 2 status remains one of the most important tight end situations to monitor.

Bowers did not practice Wednesday as he continues recovering from the meniscus procedure that kept him out of Las Vegas' opener.

Head coach Klint Kubiak has described Bowers as day-to-day, so a Week 2 return is still possible. But until Bowers gets back on the practice field, Michael Mayer remains fantasy relevant.

Mayer is more than an emergency replacement

Mayer's value comes from opportunity.

When an elite receiving tight end such as Bowers is unavailable, Las Vegas has to replace a large number of routes and designed tight end opportunities.

Mayer does not need to become Bowers to matter in fantasy.

At a position where reliable route volume can be difficult to find, another week as the primary Raiders tight end would put Mayer firmly in the streaming conversation.

What happens if Bowers returns?

An active designation alone should not automatically mean Bowers receives his normal workload.

He underwent the knee procedure shortly before the season and has not yet returned to practice this week.

If Bowers practices late in the week and is cleared, fantasy managers will have to weigh his enormous ceiling against the possibility of a managed workload.

Mayer could remain involved even if Bowers dresses.

Friday matters

The simplest signal is practice participation.

If Bowers remains out through Friday, Mayer becomes much easier to trust.

If Bowers returns to a full practice, Mayer's standalone value falls sharply.

Michael Mayer is a strong contingency option while Bowers remains sidelined.

Do not wait until Sunday to identify the replacement. Tight end waivers can get thin quickly, and another Bowers absence would give Mayer a clear path to routes and targets against the Chargers.
